Celebrating Narcolepsy Awareness Day 2013 with Sleep Walk Dallas
On Narcolepsy Awareness Day, Saturday March 9, 2013, I hosted the first Sleep Walk in Dallas, TX! I was traveling to Dallas for the Southern Sleep Society Meeting and planned this event last minute.
I’d never been to Dallas and picked the Sleep Walk route by googling around my hotel area. Over the past 3.5 years, I’ve corresponded with many Texans via my blog, Facebook and Twitter, but knowing Texas is BIG, I wasn’t sure how many people would show up.
My friend, the lovely Julie Ann of PWNY Beads and her boyfriend agreed to join me, so I knew I wouldn’t be alone. Amazingly, 20 people RSVPed. I stuffed my suitcase with extra National Sleep Walk t-shirts and flyers and flew to Texas, ready to walk!
On Saturday, we gathered, took pictures and walked to the City Hall Plaza and back. It was wonderful to meet many people I’d corresponded with online – finally in person!
Most excitingly, the Dallas Sleep Walkers now plan to start getting together on a regular basis. Bringing people together was an amazing feeling! By walking a few steps together on Saturday, we took greater strides towards awareness and understanding in the future.
Thank you to my Dallas Sleep Walkers. For those unable to join us, we were thinking fo you lots! I hope this is the first of many get-togethers and Sleep Walks in Dallas.

Thank you SO much for organizing the Sleep Walk, Julie! It was so awesome getting to hang out in person and do the Sleep Walk with you and everyone else! (And I succeeded in snagging a new pair of shoes after we parted ways that afternoon! Next time I get to Sleep Walk with ya, no blisters!) Hugs!!! <3
Thank YOU for joining me in Dallas and braving the walk pre-new footwear! It was such a joy to finally meet you in person. Thanks for my gummy bears too! What a treat. 🙂 JWN Fly
I just HAD to get you the gummy bears! Saddest Facebook update EVER!! 🙂 I just loved getting to meet you in person finally, and getting to sit and chat with you a while! Can’t wait until the next time we can sync up on a common location!
Wished I could have joined you and my 3 family members pictured above. Thank you for all you are doing to bring awareness.
HI Karen, Wish you could have joined us too! Thank you for your support. Cheers, Julie
