Unbelievable Broad For A Day – My Interview on Sirius XM Radio

“Am I dreaming?” I asked myself, walking into the Sirius XM Radio studios this morning. I peered into each soundproof spaceship-like studio with wide eyes.

Today, I was a guest on the BROADMINDED show – the honor of a lifetime.

Strangely, I wasn’t nervous. The Broads, Christine and Molly, are funny, friendly and down-to-earth. Besides the headphones and big microphones, I felt like I was chatting with girlfriends over coffee – only with a national audience listening in, I suppose!

We covered A LOT in the interview. I loved Christine and Molly’s candid honesty. As a special treat, you can listen to the full interview here.

Julie Flygare with BROADMINDED Broads Christine and Molly after narcolepsy interview

Of all the narcolepsy awareness work I’ve done, today was very special. Broadminded’s Christine admitted that when they first considered interviewing me, she worried, “Will she fall asleep in the studio?” When she read more, she quickly realized narcolepsy wasn’t like the movies…

I couldn’t help but smile, realizing:
others are listening,
perceptions are shifting,
misconceptions are melting away.

For me, this is a dream come true! Thank you, Jennifer, Christine, Molly and Scott for making this possible. Other exciting news, the Broads assigned a hot celebrity look-a-like: Mariska Hargitay of Law & Order and they proclaimed me an “Unbelievable Broad!”

Hey Helen: Funny you should ask! I didn’t get much sleep the night before my interview – but it was well worth it! I promise to get my full 8 hours the rest of the week. 🙂 Thanks for listening! Sending wakefulness from DC, Julie

    Julie,

You are so brilliant and brave. As “the Broads” said, you are such a “badass!” Congratulations on such an educational and entertaining interview. I always appreciate your ability and willingness to explain (and re-explain) your symptoms, the science behind narcolepsy, and why the stereotypes are flat wrong. Thanks so much for sharing.

What an inspiration you are. I’m going to listen to you again right now!

    Julie,
I unfortunately missed the interview and I wanted to hear it so badly. So, glad you posted it here and can’t wait to listen. You inspire me so much and I always think if that Julie F. can do it, then certainly this Julie F. can try!

Thank you for getting the word out about Narcolepsy and Cataplexy. Keep it up and best wishes.

    Julie
