Portsmouth Herald Features Julie Flygare’s Quest to Honor Father in Mt Washington Road Race

Today’s Portsmouth Herald features an article about my quest to honor my dad, Tom Flygare by running Mt Washington Road Race on Saturday while living with narcolepsy with cataplexy.

Please consider supporting my quest here.

Packing for my race, I grabbed my medical bracelet I had made for the Boston Marathon 2010. It listed Emergency Contact: Tom Flygare & his phone number… I put the bracelet back down on my dresser.  I will need to list new info on a card in my fanny pack.

I’m in New Hampshire today, on route to Mt Washington. Father’s Day will mark five months since my dad passed away. I haven’t been back to NH since his funeral. Tears fall easily, but I’m trying to hold back a bit because crying is dehydrating! I need all my strength with me tomorrow.  I had a bad cataplexy attack on Wednesday night while laughing with a friend and holding an ice cream sundae. Luckily, the ice cream survived, but I was so scared.

I will try to keep calm and carry on; my eyes towards the skies. Please send positive strong energy my way Saturday morning.
